Overview
A future plan is a guide for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to lead a good life as independently as possible. It can also help people with I/DD reach their goals and dreams.
A future plan is important for all families — especially when a parent or caregiver is no longer able to support a person with I/DD. Thinking about the future can be hard, but planning is possible and necessary. The Arc’s Center for Future Planning® has resources to help people with I/DD and their families create future plans. Topics include:
- Finding a place to live
- Paying for things
- Making decisions
- Getting a job
- Having friends and relationships
