Meet Sergio

When we think of “youth empowerment,” we think of Sergio. Sergio has been involved with The Arc for many years, mainly with El Poder de los Jovenes project.

After receiving training through the Southern New Mexico Training Collaborative, Sergio participated in the Mentoring Diverse Abilities Project as a mentor in the Gadsden Independent School District.

Sergio put the knowledge he received to use as an Intern with El Poder de los Jovenes, and also became the Chair on the Advisory Committee of the Center for Self-Advocacy. Since completing his internship, Sergio has become a full-fledged member of El Poder de los Jovenes and mentors others with disabilities.

Sergio has also been actively involved in starting a People First Chapter in Anthony, New Mexico. As part of the project, Sergio has been able to travel throughout New Mexico and to Washington D.C. where he continues to help others help themselves. Sergio has an infectious and positive attitude, always bringing something new to the ongoing conversation on self-determination.
