Meet Carolyn
Carolyn is an aspiring artist who enjoys dancing and spending time with her family and boyfriend. Carolyn has been involved in The Arc for many years, especially as an active member of People First of Albuquerque and an Arc Americas Member.
Carolyn was also an integral part of designing the Mi Via Waiver, serving on a task force that has worked to create more opportunities for personal choice for people with developmental disabilities.
Through the People First Project, Carolyn learned how to advocate for herself. It helped her understand her rights and other opportunities. But she didn’t stop there. She also learned how to advocate for others, and now she travels to local, statewide and national conferences to share the news about self-advocacy.
Thanks to The Arc, Carolyn knows the importance of sticking up for her rights. She says, “Self-advocacy can help a person get things they otherwise would not have.” Carolyn’s passion for disability rights is clear and it shines through every aspect of her life.
